cherry being dropped in to vodka in a martini glass

This was fun ... made in blender 2.64BETA and rendered with luxrender

100% made by me and fluid simulated in blender

rendered with hybrid bidirectional MLT in luxrender ... took 20 hours of rendering

i tried to make this as realistic looking as possible

what do you think?

the stem of the cherry looks really thin from the refraction of water

Didn't you use Andrew Price's (Blender Guru) tutorial to create this? I'm just thinking that if you did, you should mention it in the description.

and how exactly are these 2 totally different scenes similar? because water and a glass is used? O.o i did not even use the same fluid method ... or the same method of making the glass ... or the same glass!

please tell me how you compared the 2 images im very curious

and no i haven't even seen that video before ... i used this to make the image [link]

That's fair enough, I'm not accusing you. I've seen a lot of people create variations on the tutorial by Blender Guru and not give credit to it. There were enough similarities between the two images that I felt there was a good chance you had also followed the tutorial.

Personally I don't see a huge amount of difference between your image and the tutorial image. Again, I'm not accusing you and it's just my opinion that they look very similar.

what about it looks similar? only thing i can think of is the lighting that is just the standard 3-point lighting system with a backdrop and the fill light pushed up against the background and a center gradiented b/w backdrop that is the most sold type of non-solid backdrop

as primarily a photographer this technique is very common and is really the only way to simply light a clear scene

so what similarities are there that are copied?

It's the general composition and look. Here are a few examples from the Blender Club gallery:

All but one of them say they used the tutorial I referenced, and while they're all different from each other they all share basic similarities, which I think yours does to. I'm sure that is a common setup but it also happens to be the setup of a very popular tutorial :)

well yeah like i said you need something such as that in the background in break up the water ... if you used a solid color the refraction of the water when parted out would be solid and dull so you need some sort of gradient background and because you need a dark world in blender or risk getting strange reflections it needs to be a bright color in the center to dark black on the outer
i used luxrender to render this over cycles (for realism) and part of the luxrender pack it has center gradients so the single dot was the simple solution ... i could have used 2 'brick flashes' crossing like this X to give another sort of effect but i also needed to work on a phone prototype for work so i did not take the time to do so XP ... and for that i need to use 3Ds MAX that is STUPID software >_> XP

also rewatching that tutorial the guy used a reference image that looked more like mine than his does XD
but anywho thanks for your concern but i assure you that this was my own idea ... i use water as a medium in my photography allot [link]

and thanks for a link to this guru guy and i will check him out tho generally for me im entirely self taught (i do that for most things so i get a deeper understanding)
